Like “Web 2.0,” “Social Media” is one of those terms that’s tossed around with abandon, defined a hundred different ways, mastered by a few, and come to the attention of many. Outside of the geek community, I find that the average person can name one or two platforms social media runs on, and may have a blog or twitter account, but doesn’t quite get what the big deal is. I was thinking of trying to explain it, but then I discovered this wonderful video by Perry Belcher.
The internet is a big party, social media is how you mingle and make friends, and friends are sweet. Don’t try to sell stuff to your friends, don’t talk about yourself all the time, have fun, be genuine and interesting. Great points from a great guy.
