I'm excited to announce that I'm teaching a blues workshop this Sunday with Miriam Mikiel Grill, an AMAZING local lindy hop and blues dancer and teacher. We'll be at Aceituno Arts on Mission from 1pm to 5pm, teaching four classes to take your dancing to the next level:
1-2pm: GETTING BLUESY Blues for Lindy Dancers [beg/int]
This class is for intermediate or higher lindy hoppers interested in working on their blues. We'll focus on the differences between the two styles, cool transitions between them, and how to bluesify your lindy vocabulary.
2-3pm: IN THE GROOVE! Flow and momentum [int/adv]
This is where we take what you already know and link it together in a smooth, bluesy way. No more dead stops or brick walls- learning to carry momentum from one movement to the next will make your dancing look better and feel better.
3-4pm: MAD BEATS! Playing with Syncopation [int/adv]
Syncopating essential means dancing with a funky timing that complements or contrasts with the main beat of the music. We'll give you some concrete, easy to learn syncopations to common blues music, as well as tools to create your own.
4-5pm: JUST FOR YOU A Customized Advanced Class [adv]
This will be part teacher's choice, part students' choice (depending on the exact class composition), but expect advanced styling, connection, and rhythm, as well as personal advice and critiques.
Early bird tickets are $40 on Eventbrite, and sales close Friday. Door price is $50, and individual classes are $15 early bird, $20 door.
You can RSVP to the Facebook event here. Hope to see you there!
